Sorority Team Member Job Description
Position Summary
The Sorority Team Member position supports the daily operation of Bonafide Bites contract food service accounts located within sorority houses. Sorority Team Members may perform culinary, food production, meal service, ordering, inventory, sanitation, client service, and account-support responsibilities depending on their assigned role and level of responsibility.
Some Sorority Team Members are assigned primary culinary responsibility for an account and are responsible for menu development, ordering, food production planning, budget compliance, and communication with house members and client representatives. Other Team Members primarily support food preparation, meal service, sanitation, and daily kitchen operations. All Sorority Team Members are expected to assist across areas of operation as needed and as assigned.
This position requires professionalism, reliability, attention to detail, safe food handling, and a willingness to assist wherever needed. Employees work within a client's facility and are expected to respect the privacy, property, culture, and operations of each house while representing Bonafide Bites professionally at all times.
Primary Responsibilities
Menu Planning, Ordering & Account Operations
- Collaborate with house members, the Campus Manager, and other Bonafide Bites team members to develop menus that meet the needs and preferences of the account.
- Employees assigned primary culinary responsibility for an account are expected to create and maintain menus, receive and respond professionally to member feedback and requests, and meet with members or client representatives as appropriate.
- Plan menus and food production with consideration for dietary restrictions, food allergies, member preferences, variety, seasonality, operational feasibility, and established account budgets.
- Employees assigned ordering responsibilities are responsible for accurately ordering food, beverages, and non-food supplies; monitoring inventory; maintaining appropriate product levels; and operating within established budget parameters.
- Properly use Company purchasing methods and credit cards when authorized, maintain required receipts and documentation, and accurately record or report purchases.
- Monitor food and non-food spending and comply with established account budgets and Company purchasing procedures.
- Other Sorority Team Members may assist with menu planning, ordering, inventory, purchasing, budget tracking, or related account responsibilities when assigned or authorized.
- Receive, inspect, rotate, organize, and properly store incoming products and supplies.
Food Preparation & Production
- Prepare, cook, portion, and present food according to menus, recipes, production needs, and Company standards.
- Plan and organize food production to meet established meal schedules and service needs.
- Safely operate commercial kitchen equipment and use appropriate food preparation techniques.
- Follow established procedures for food allergies, dietary restrictions, substitutions, and special dietary needs.
- Monitor food quality, temperature, quantity, and presentation throughout preparation and meal service.
- Properly label, date, store, cool, reheat, and handle food in accordance with food safety requirements.
Meal Service & Member Experience
- Prepare and serve all scheduled meals on time and in accordance with the established meal schedule for the assigned account.
- Plan and organize food production so meals are fully prepared, properly presented, and ready for service at the scheduled meal time.
- Prepare serving lines, buffets, beverage stations, snack areas, dining areas, salad bars, and other service spaces for scheduled meals.
- Serve meals and monitor buffets or service areas as assigned.
- Monitor food quality, temperature, quantity, and presentation throughout meal service and replenish food, beverages, serving ware, and supplies as needed.
- Accurately prepare, label, store, and provide late plates or other requested meals according to established account procedures, including applicable dietary restrictions and special meal requests.
- Provide courteous, professional, and attentive service to house members, house staff, board and advisory members, guests, and other individuals served by the account.
- Receive member requests and feedback professionally and communicate relevant information to the appropriate team member or Campus Manager.
- Respond professionally to questions and reasonable requests.
- Refer concerns involving budgets, staffing, Company policy, contracts, or other matters outside the employee's authority to the Campus Manager or Bonafide Bites ownership.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect client and Company confidentiality at all times.
Kitchen, Dining & Sanitation Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, service ware, and kitchen equipment.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation surfaces, equipment, serving areas, and other assigned work areas.
- Sweep, mop, remove trash and recycling, and perform other routine cleaning duties.
- Clean and maintain kitchens, serving lines, dining areas, snack areas, storage areas, and food preparation spaces.
- Clean as you work and leave assigned areas organized, sanitary, and ready for the next meal service or shift.
- Transfer supplies, food, and equipment between storage and work areas as needed.
- Assist with maintaining kitchen and food service equipment and immediately report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment.
Food Safety & Workplace Safety
- Follow all Company food safety, sanitation, illness-reporting, and workplace safety policies and procedures.
- Prevent cross-contamination and follow appropriate procedures for allergens and dietary restrictions.
- Practice proper handwashing, glove use, temperature control, cleaning, and sanitation procedures.
- Immediately report suspected food contamination, equipment failures, injuries, accidents, unsafe conditions, or other safety concerns.
- Use knives, slicers, ovens, ranges, fryers, steam equipment, mixers, dish machines, and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and only as trained or authorized.
Special Events & Additional Operations
- Assist with planning, preparation, setup, service, and cleanup for special meals, chapter functions, recruitment activities, alumni or board functions, and other events held at the client facility.
- Assist with Bonafide Bites catering operations or work at other Company locations when assigned based on business needs.
- Demonstrate initiative by identifying tasks that need attention and offering assistance without waiting to be asked whenever appropriate.
Professional Expectations
- Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled shifts.
- Maintain a professional appearance and comply with the applicable Uniform Policy.
- Practice excellent personal hygiene and safe food handling procedures.
- Treat house members, house staff, board and advisory members, guests, coworkers, vendors, and other client representatives with courtesy and professionalism.
- Respect the privacy, property, and confidential information of Bonafide Bites and its clients.
- Communicate professionally, respectfully, and cooperatively with clients, members, coworkers, and Company leadership.
- Follow direction from the Campus Manager and ownership.
- Maintain a professional presence while working within client facilities.
- Protect the Company's reputation through professional conduct at all times.
- Follow all Company policies, procedures, food safety requirements, and workplace safety standards.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a commercial food-service environment.
- Demonstrate appropriate organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Be able to follow recipes, production instructions, food safety procedures, and supervisory direction.
- Have or obtain food safety training or certification when required by the Company or applicable law.
- Successfully pass a background check when required for the position.
- Be capable of performing the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Prior commercial kitchen, restaurant, institutional food service, catering, or culinary experience is preferred but may not be required for all Sorority Team Member positions.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Stand and walk for extended periods during scheduled shifts, which may include shifts of 8 hours or more.
- Frequently bend, squat, kneel, reach, twist, push, and pull.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Use appropriate team-lifting techniques or equipment to safely move heavier items when necessary.
- Move food, cookware, equipment, supplies, boxes, trash, and other materials throughout kitchen, storage, dining, and service areas.
- Work safely around commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, ranges, fryers, flat tops, steamers, dish machines, slicers, mixers, coffee equipment, and other food-service equipment.
- Safely handle knives and other sharp utensils or equipment.
- Work in environments involving heat, hot surfaces, open flames, steam, hot liquids, grease, sharp objects, wet or slippery floors, cleaning chemicals, and elevated noise levels.
- Safely lift, carry, move, and work around hot cookware, sheet pans, hotel pans, food containers, and other heated equipment or products.
- Perform repetitive food preparation, cleaning, lifting, carrying, and dishwashing tasks throughout a shift.
Schedule Expectations
- Work schedules are based on the operational needs of the assigned contract food service account and generally follow the academic calendar.
- Employees may be scheduled for breakfast, lunch, dinner, preparation, cleaning, special events, or other operational shifts.
- Work schedules and hours may vary based on meal schedules, house occupancy, school breaks, special events, and other client or business needs.
- Employees may occasionally be asked to work outside their typical schedule or assist at another Bonafide Bites location or catering operation based on business needs.
